John Stephen Fletcher (1863–1935) was an English author of detective fiction. He wrote over 200 novels, many of which featured the amateur detective, Dr. Thorndyke. He was one of the most prolific authors of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction. Fletcher was born in London and educated at University College School. He worked as a solicitor's clerk and then as a journalist before becoming a full-time writer. He wrote his first novel, The Mystery of the Golden Dagger, in 1910. He went on to write over 200 novels, many of which featured the amateur detective, Dr. Thorndyke. He also wrote a number of non-fiction books on legal topics. Fletcher was a member of the Detection Club, a group of British mystery writers, and was a founding member of the Crime Writers' Association. He was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1932 for his services to literature. He died in 1935 in London.
