James Platt (1837-1909) was an English author and journalist. He was born in Manchester, England, and educated at the Manchester Grammar School. He began his career as a journalist in 1858, writing for the Manchester Guardian and other newspapers. Platt wrote several books, including The Witches' Sabbath (1869), a collection of stories about witchcraft and the supernatural. He also wrote a number of novels, including The White Witch (1871), The Witch of the Wood (1872), and The Witch of the Valley (1873). Platt was a member of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society, and was a frequent contributor to its proceedings. He was also a member of the Manchester Athenaeum, and was a frequent contributor to its publications. He was a member of the Manchester Literary Club, and was a frequent contributor to its proceedings. Platt died in 1909 in Manchester.
