Jerome Bixby (January 11, 1923 – April 28, 1998) was an American science fiction writer, editor, and producer. He wrote several short stories and novels, including the classic short story "It's a Good Life" and the novel The Man from Earth. He was also a prolific television writer, contributing scripts to shows such as Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits. Bixby was born in Chicago, Illinois, and attended the University of Chicago. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, and afterwards began writing science fiction stories for magazines such as Astounding Science Fiction and Galaxy Science Fiction. He was a member of the Futurians, a group of science fiction writers and fans in New York City. Bixby wrote several screenplays for television shows, including episodes of Star Trek, The Twilight Zone, and The Outer Limits. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1967 film Fantastic Voyage. Bixby was posthumously inducted into the Science Fiction Hall of Fame in 2001.
