Self-Deceit

The novella revolves around a young nobleman who becomes infatuated with a woman of lower social standing. He deceives himself into believing that she reciprocates his feelings and that their love is genuine, despite her lack of interest in him. As the story progresses, the nobleman's obsession with the woman grows, and he begins to deceive others as well, including his family and friends. His deception becomes more elaborate and complex, but ultimately it leads to his downfall. The novella explores themes of self-deception, social class, and the dangers of unchecked emotions. It is a commentary on the societal norms of the time and the consequences of allowing one's desires to cloud one's judgment.
