Polidori was born in 1795 in London to Italian parents. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and later became a physician. However, he abandoned his medical career to pursue writing. His most notable work is a short story that he wrote while traveling with Lord Byron and Percy Bysshe Shelley in 1816.
