Jonathan Haidt

Jonathan Haidt is an American social psychologist, author, and professor known for his work on morality, politics, religion, and the effects of social media on young people. He is the Thomas Cooley Professor of Ethical Leadership at the New York University Stern School of Business. Haidt earned his PhD in social psychology from the University of Pennsylvania in 1992 and previously taught at the University of Virginia. He is a leading developer of moral foundations theory, which argues that moral judgments arise from several intuitive foundations, including care, fairness, loyalty, authority, sanctity, and liberty. His research examines why people with different political and cultural commitments often reach sharply different moral conclusions. Haidt is the author of The Happiness Hypothesis, The Righteous Mind, and The Anxious Generation. He co-wrote The Coddling of the American Mind with Greg Lukianoff. He also helped found Heterodox Academy, an organization advocating viewpoint diversity and open inquiry in higher education.
