Loving Laili by Joseph Jacobs (2021)

In a kingdom ruled by King Dantal, his son, Prince Majnun, and the Wazir's son, Husain Mahamat, enjoy their youth in a lush garden. As they grow, Majnun expresses a desire to hunt, leading them to the Phalana country, where they encounter the beautiful Laili, daughter of Raja Munsuk. Unbeknownst to them, Laili has been visited by an angel in a dream, declaring that she must marry Majnun. Obsessed with him, she becomes mad when he leaves without marrying her, wandering the jungles for twelve years, constantly calling his name. During her wanderings, Laili meets a fakir who guides her to a magical fish, the Rohu, which she enters. After a long journey, she emerges aged and unrecognizable. She seeks out Majnun, who is now a king, and they pray to Khuda to restore their youth. Their prayers are answered, and they marry, but their happiness is short-lived. While exploring a jungle, Laili warns Majnun of danger, but he dismisses her concerns. A wicked Raja, Chumman Basa, kills Majnun in a bid to take Laili for himself. In despair, Laili uses her blood to revive Majnun, but she must confront Chumman Basa again. After a fierce encounter, she kills him and revives him, but he remains a threat. Laili cleverly escapes with Majnun, and they return to King Dantal, who praises Laili for her bravery and wisdom. King Dantal builds a grand palace for the couple, ensuring their safety from outside threats. The story concludes with Majnun and Laili living in happiness, surrounded by wealth and love, while the king protects them from the dangers of the world.
