Joseph Samachson

Joseph Samachson (1904-1962) was an American biochemist and science fiction author. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1929. He worked as a biochemist at the National Institutes of Health from 1929 to 1962. Samachson wrote science fiction under the pseudonym "William Morrison". He wrote for the pulp magazines of the 1930s and 1940s, and his stories were published in Astounding Stories, Thrilling Wonder Stories, and other magazines. He also wrote for the comic book series Superman, and was the author of the first Superman story in Action Comics #1. Samachson was a member of the Washington Science Fiction Association, and was a founding member of the Washington Science Fiction Association's "Futurians" group. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Science Fiction Society. Samachson died in 1962 at the age of 58.
