Karel Čapek

Born on January 9, 1890, in Hradec Králové, Bohemia (now part of the Czech Republic). Died on December 25, 1938, in Lapalud, France. Czech playwright, novelist, and journalist. Studied law at Charles University in Prague but did not graduate. Worked as a journalist and playwright from an early age. Published his first play in 1916. His most famous work is a science fiction novel published in 1920.
