Leopoldo Alas

Leopoldo Alas (1852-1901) was a Spanish novelist, journalist, and literary critic. He is best known for his novel La Regenta (1884-1885), which is considered one of the greatest works of Spanish literature. He was born in Zamora, Spain, and studied law at the University of Salamanca. He worked as a journalist for several newspapers and magazines, and wrote several novels, short stories, and plays. He was a major influence on the Spanish literary scene of the late 19th century, and his works are still widely read today.
