Elizabeth Morey is a young woman from New York who is determined to make her own way in the world. She is determined to make her own fortune and to do so she sets out on a journey to the South Pacific. Along the way she meets a variety of characters, including a mysterious sailor, a Chinese trader, and a mysterious islander. She also discovers a hidden treasure and is forced to confront a dangerous enemy. In the end, Elizabeth is able to make her fortune and return home to New York a successful woman.
