Louis Becke (1855–1913)

Louis Becke (1855–1913) was an Australian author, adventurer, and trader. He was born in Sydney, Australia, and spent much of his life in the South Pacific, including Samoa, the Solomon Islands, and New Guinea. He wrote several books about his travels and experiences, including By Reef and Palm (1892), Wild Life in the South Seas (1896), and The Ebbing of the Tide (1902). He also wrote several short stories, including "The Beach of Falesá" (1893) and "The Story of a Typhoon off the Coast of Japan" (1894). Becke was a friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, and the two collaborated on several works, including The Wrecker (1892) and The Ebb-Tide (1894). He died in 1913 in London, England.
