Tessa by Louis Becke (1901)

Tessa is a novel by Louis Becke, first published in 1895. It tells the story of a young woman, Tessa, who is born into a wealthy family in the South Pacific. She is a beautiful and intelligent girl, but her parents are too busy with their own lives to pay her much attention. Tessa is sent to a boarding school in Australia, where she meets a young man named Jack. Jack is a sailor and the two quickly fall in love. However, Tessa's parents disapprove of the relationship and forbid her from seeing Jack. Tessa is determined to be with Jack and runs away from home. She and Jack travel around the South Pacific, experiencing many adventures and hardships. Eventually, they make their way to the island of Tahiti, where they settle down and start a family. Tessa's parents eventually come to accept her relationship with Jack and the two are happily married. The novel ends with Tessa and Jack living happily ever after on the island of Tahiti.
