Mario de Andrade (1893–1945) was a Brazilian poet, novelist, musicologist, and critic. A key figure in the Brazilian Modernist movement, he is best known for his novel "Macunaíma" (1928), which explores Brazilian identity and folklore. Andrade was also influential in the development of ethnomusicology in Brazil and played a significant role in the Semana de Arte Moderna in 1922, which marked a cultural shift in Brazilian arts. His work often combined elements of folklore, modernism, and nationalism.
