Mary Gaunt (1862-1942) was an Australian author and journalist. She was born in Melbourne, Australia, and educated at the Presbyterian Ladies' College. She began her writing career in the 1880s, writing for the Melbourne Argus and other newspapers. She wrote several novels, including Mistress Betty Carew (1903), The House of Molloy (1905), and The House of the White Cross (1908). She also wrote short stories, plays, and non-fiction works. Gaunt was a strong advocate for women's rights and was a founding member of the Women Writers' Club in Melbourne. She was also a member of the Australian Women's National League. Gaunt died in 1942 in Melbourne.
