Lodore by Mary Shelley (1835)

Lodore is a novel by Mary Shelley, first published in 1835. It tells the story of a young woman, Lodore, who is sent away from her home in England to a remote island in the Mediterranean Sea. There, she meets a mysterious stranger, who reveals to her the secrets of the island and its inhabitants. Lodore soon discovers that the island is inhabited by a strange race of people, the Lodoreans, who are descended from a long-forgotten civilization.
