Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941) was a French author best known for his series of novels featuring the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. He was born in Rouen, France, and studied law at the University of Caen. He began writing in the 1890s, and his first novel, Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar, was published in 1905. He wrote over 20 novels featuring Lupin, as well as several short stories and plays. He also wrote several non-Lupin novels, including The Hollow Needle (1909) and The Crystal Stopper (1917). He was a popular author in his lifetime, and his works have been adapted for film and television.
