Genesis by Moses (-1900)

Genesis is the first book of the Bible and is part of the Pentateuch, or the five books of Moses. It is the foundation of the entire Bible and tells the story of creation, the fall of man, the flood, and the beginnings of the nation of Israel. The book begins with the creation of the world and the first man and woman, Adam and Eve. God gives them instructions to care for the Garden of Eden and warns them not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. However, they disobey and are cast out of the Garden. The rest of the book follows the descendants of Adam and Eve, including Noah and his sons, who are chosen by God to survive the great flood. After the flood, God makes a covenant with Abraham and his descendants, promising them a great nation. The book ends with the death of Joseph, the son of Jacob, who was sold into slavery in Egypt. Genesis is a foundational book of the Bible, providing the basis for the rest of the Bible’s narrative. It is a story of God’s faithfulness and mercy, and of the consequences of disobedience.
