Ovid, full name Publius Ovidius Naso, was a Roman poet born on March 20, 43 BCE, in Sulmo, Italy. He is best known for his works "Metamorphoses," "Amores," and "Ars Amatoria." Ovid was a contemporary of Virgil and Horace and was part of the Augustan literary circle. His poetry is characterized by its wit, elegance, and exploration of love and transformation. In 8 CE, Ovid was exiled by Emperor Augustus to Tomis (modern-day Constanța, Romania) for reasons that remain unclear, possibly due to his controversial writings. He died in exile in 17 or 18 CE.
