Plutarch was a Greek biographer and essayist born around 46 AD in Chaeronea, Boeotia, Greece. He is best known for his work "Parallel Lives," a series of biographies of famous Greeks and Romans, and "Moralia," a collection of essays and dialogues on ethical, religious, political, and literary topics. Plutarch studied philosophy in Athens and later traveled to Rome, where he gained Roman citizenship and held various public offices. His works have been influential in both the Renaissance and Enlightenment periods. He died around 119 AD.
