Rhoda Broughton

Rhoda Broughton (1840–1920) was a Welsh novelist and short story writer. She was born in Denbigh, Wales, and educated at home by her father, a clergyman. She began writing at an early age, and her first novel, Not Wisely but Too Well, was published in 1867. Broughton's works often featured strong female characters and explored themes of love, marriage, and morality. She was a popular author in her day, and her works were widely read in both Britain and the United States. Her best-known works include Red as a Rose is She (1875), Good-Bye, Sweetheart (1884), and Cometh Up as a Flower (1890). Broughton was a member of the literary circle of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, and her works were praised by figures such as George Eliot and Thomas Hardy. She was also a friend of the poet Christina Rossetti. Broughton died in 1920 in London.
