Richard Aldington

Richard Aldington (1892-1962) was an English poet, novelist, and biographer. He was born in Hampshire, England, and educated at Dover College and the University of London. He served in the British Army during World War I, and his experiences in the trenches inspired his first book, Images of War (1919). Aldington was a member of the Imagist movement, and his poetry was characterized by its directness and economy of language. His best-known works include Death of a Hero (1929), a novel about a soldier's experience in World War I, and Lawrence of Arabia (1955), a biography of T.E. Lawrence. He also wrote several volumes of poetry, including Images (1919), Collected Poems (1930), and Collected Poems (1962). Aldington was a controversial figure in his time, and his works were often criticized for their frankness and lack of sentimentality. He was also a vocal critic of the British government and its policies. He died in 1962 in Sury-en-Vaux, France.
