Richard Hughes (1900–1976) was a British writer known for his novels, plays, and children's literature. He gained fame with "A High Wind in Jamaica" (1929), a novel about children captured by pirates. Hughes was a member of the Welsh Academy and contributed to the development of modernist literature. His other notable works include "In Hazard" (1938) and the unfinished "The Human Predicament" series, which includes "The Fox in the Attic" (1961) and "The Wooden Shepherdess" (1973).
