The Shadow Kingdom
The novel follows Kull of Atlantis, a barbarian warrior who is exiled from his homeland and finds himself in the kingdom of Valusia. Kull soon discovers that the kingdom is under the control of a sinister cult known as the Serpent Men, who are using their dark magic to manipulate the kingdom’s rulers. Kull must battle the Serpent Men and their minions in order to save Valusia and restore peace to the kingdom. Along the way, he discovers the secrets of the Shadow Kingdom and learns the truth about his own past.

The blare of the trumpets grew louder, like a deep golden tide surge, like the soft booming of the evening tides against the silver beaches of Valusia. The throng shouted, women flung roses from the roofs as the rhythmic chiming of silver hosts came clearer and the first of the mighty array swung into view in the broad, white street that curved round the golden-spired Tower of Splendor.
