Samuel was a prophet in the Hebrew Bible. He is traditionally considered the author of the Books of Samuel in the Old Testament. He is also mentioned in the New Testament. Samuel was born in Ramathaim-Zophim, in the hill country of Ephraim. He was the son of Elkanah and Hannah, and was dedicated to the service of God at a young age. He was raised by the High Priest Eli in the Tabernacle at Shiloh. Samuel was a judge and a prophet in Israel. He anointed Saul as the first king of Israel, and later anointed David as the second king. He also wrote the Book of Judges and the Book of Ruth. Samuel is remembered for his faithfulness to God and his commitment to justice. He is also remembered for his role in the establishment of the monarchy in Israel.
