The Book of Ruth is a work of the Hebrew Bible, part of the Ketuvim (Writings). It is named after its central character, Ruth the Moabite, the great-grandmother of King David. The book tells the story of Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi, who were both widowed. Naomi decides to return to her homeland of Bethlehem, and Ruth decides to go with her. On the journey, Ruth meets Boaz, a relative of Naomi's late husband, and the two eventually marry. The book is set in the time of the Judges, and is a story of loyalty, faithfulness, and redemption. It is a story of how God can use even the most unlikely of people to bring about his plans. Ruth's loyalty to Naomi and her faithfulness to God are rewarded when Boaz marries her and she becomes the great-grandmother of King David.
