Stanley Waterloo is a Canadian author and illustrator of children's books. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, and grew up in the city's east end. He studied at the Ontario College of Art and Design, and has been writing and illustrating books since the early 1980s. His books have been published in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and other countries. Waterloo's books often feature animals and nature, and he has written and illustrated several books about endangered species. He has also written books about Canadian history, including the award-winning The Great Fire of 1866. His books have won numerous awards, including the Governor General's Award for Children's Literature, the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Award, and the Mr. Christie's Book Award. Waterloo lives in Toronto with his wife and two children. He is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hiking, canoeing, and birdwatching.
