Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. He is famous for his exuberant personality, range of interests and achievements, and his leadership of the Progressive Movement, as well as his "cowboy" persona and robust masculinity. He was a leader of the Republican Party and founder of the short-lived Progressive ("Bull Moose") Party of 1912. He is the only president to have won the Nobel Peace Prize. Roosevelt was a prolific writer, publishing more than 35 books and numerous articles. His works include books on outdoor life, natural history, the American frontier, political history, naval history, and foreign policy. His most famous work is The Wendigo, a horror novel set in the Canadian wilderness. The novel was published in 1932 and is considered a classic of the horror genre.
