Virgil

Virgil (70 BC – 19 BC) was a Roman poet, best known for his epic poem the Aeneid. He was born in the village of Andes, near Mantua in Cisalpine Gaul. Virgil was educated in Cremona, Milan, and Rome and was highly regarded by Augustus, the first Roman emperor. Virgil wrote several other works, including the Eclogues, the Georgics, and the unfinished epic, the Aeneid. The Aeneid tells the story of Aeneas, a Trojan prince who escaped the destruction of Troy and eventually founded the city of Rome.
