Sam´s Ghost by W. W. Jacobs (1843)

Sam's Ghost is a classic horror story by W. W. Jacobs. It tells the story of Sam, a sailor who dies at sea and returns as a ghost to haunt his old shipmates. The story begins with Sam's ghost appearing to his old shipmates, who are now living in a small fishing village. The ghost appears to them in the form of a white mist, and it speaks to them in a strange language. The ghost tells them that it is searching for something, and it needs their help. The ghost leads the men to a nearby island, where they find a mysterious cave. Inside the cave, they discover a chest filled with gold coins. The ghost tells them that the coins are his, and he wants them to take the coins and use them to build a church in his honor. The men agree, and they build the church. But soon after, strange things begin to happen. People in the village start to disappear, and strange noises can be heard coming from the church at night. The men soon realize that the ghost is not happy with the church, and it is trying to take revenge on them. They must find a way to appease the ghost and make it go away before it is too late.
