The Convert by W. W. Jacobs (1843)

The Convert is a short story by W. W. Jacobs. It tells the story of a young man, Tom, who is a convert to Christianity. He is a devout believer and is determined to spread the word of God to everyone he meets. Tom is a poor man who lives in a small village. He is often ridiculed by the other villagers for his beliefs, but he remains steadfast in his faith. One day, he meets a wealthy man who is also a convert to Christianity. The wealthy man offers to help Tom spread the word of God and gives him a large sum of money to do so. Tom uses the money to build a church and to spread the gospel. He is successful in his mission and soon the village is filled with believers. However, the villagers soon become jealous of Tom's success and begin to plot against him. Tom is eventually arrested and put on trial for heresy. He is found guilty and sentenced to death. However, just before his execution, a miracle occurs and Tom is saved. He is reunited with his family and friends and continues to spread the word of God.
