Walter Crane (1845–1915) was an English artist and book illustrator. He was a prolific artist, producing over 12,000 works in his lifetime. He is best known for his illustrations of children's books, including the works of Lewis Carroll, Charles Kingsley, and Walter Scott. He was also a successful painter, designing stained glass windows, wallpaper, and ceramic tiles. He was a major figure in the Arts and Crafts Movement, and was a founding member of the Art Workers Guild. He was also a socialist, and a member of the Social Democratic Federation.
