Auntie Robbo and Hector did not venture from their hiding-place till after dark, but they did not have far to walk to catch up with the others. For after Merlissa Benck had stopped the cart and spoken to them and then turned back to her house, they had only gone on another couple of miles out of the glen, and camped by the side of the road where it crested a hill. It was a cold place to camp, but conspicuous, and they kept the fire burning big to guide the travellers. Mary had a hot supper ready for them--potatoes baked in the peaty ash of the fire and a nourishing rabbit broth.

When Auntie Robbo and Hector at last arrived, very wearied with their wait on the hillside, it was past midnight. While they ate, Sando and Mary and Pete told them about their encounter with Merlissa Benck. On the whole it seemed to have been a victorious one.
