The Summons is a novel by A.E.W. Mason that follows the story of John Wyndham, a successful lawyer who receives an unexpected summons to a remote manor house from a mysterious stranger. Upon his arrival, he discovers that he has been invited to play a game with other guests, where they must solve a series of puzzles and riddles in order to uncover the secrets of the house. As the game progresses, Wyndham realizes that the stakes are much higher than he initially thought, and that his life is in danger if he fails to solve the final riddle.
