Abraham Valdelomar

Abraham Valdelomar (1888–1919) was a Peruvian poet, novelist, and playwright. He is considered one of the most important figures of the Latin American modernist movement. Valdelomar was born in Lima, Peru, and studied law at the National University of San Marcos. He began writing poetry and short stories while still a student, and his first collection of poems, La canción de la luna (The Song of the Moon), was published in 1908. He went on to write several novels, including El caballero Carmelo (The Gentleman Carmelo) and La tumba del relámpago (The Tomb of the Lightning), as well as plays and essays. Valdelomar was a major influence on the Latin American modernist movement, and his works are known for their use of symbolism and their exploration of themes such as death, love, and the search for identity. He died in 1919 at the age of 31.
