Agatha Christie (1890-1976) was an English crime novelist, short story writer, and playwright. She is best known for her 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections, particularly those revolving around her fictional detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple. Christie also wrote the world's longest-running play, a murder mystery, The Mousetrap, which opened in 1952 and is still running today. Christie's books have sold over a billion copies in English and another billion in over 100 foreign languages. She is the best-selling novelist of all time and is considered to be a master of suspense, plotting, and characterisation. Her works, particularly the ones featuring Poirot and Marple, have been adapted into numerous films, television series, video games, and comic books.
