A young man named Jerry Jervise inherits a large sum of money from his deceased uncle, Old Cater. However, the will stipulates that Jerry must first spend the money on a series of frivolous and unnecessary purchases before he can inherit the rest of the estate. As Jerry goes through the list of items, he realizes that the more he spends, the less he truly enjoys the purchases, leading him to question the value of material wealth.
