A New Year's Reminder

A NEW YEAR'S REMINDER by Charlotte Perkins Gilman: In this short story, the narrator is confined to a room by her husband, who believes she needs rest and isolation to recover from an illness. However, the narrator soon realizes that she is being subjected to a form of mental and emotional abuse, as she is denied any sense of agency or control over her own life. The story highlights the dangers of patriarchal societal norms and the ways in which women can be marginalized and oppressed.
