Three of them — Kindheart, Silvertongue, and Sweet-Tooth — sail on Santa's handkerchief to the Town of Bo-Peep, once merry but now joyless under a strict new King who has banned candy, toys, and play. The Brownies, aided by the exiled Toy Lady and Candy Man, secretly restock the shops and beach with treats and permissive signs, then spirit the King and Queen away to a lighthouse. The royals discover they prefer peace and quiet there, renounce their crowns, and the town restores itself to a happy, playful place. **Fleetfoot and Jack Frost:** Jack Frost wakes Brownie Fleetfoot at midnight to help a boy named Buttons, who has wandered outside barefoot searching for his runaway cat, Boots. Fleetfoot disguises himself as the cat with a bell and meowing, luring Buttons safely home; when Buttons' feet grow too sore to continue, Fleetfoot swaps his own Brownie shoes onto the boy's feet to get him the rest of the way to bed. **The Little Brown Boy:** A boy nicknamed for his brown hair and eyes never puts away his toys, despite his family's pleading. One night the West Wind whisks him on an autumn leaf to Santa's Palace, where he witnesses Santa's Book of Good Children — and sees his own name about to be crossed out for his messy habits. Overhearing the toys' complaints about being left on the floor, and begging Santa for another chance, he promises to reform. He wakes convinced it was a dream, but a roasted chestnut in his nightclothes pocket proves otherwise, and he faithfully keeps his promise afterward. **Merrythought's Lost Christmas:** Merrythought, Santa's finest toymaker, grows weary and cynical about Christmas, feeling children have too many toys already. Mischief secretly coaches the doll Lady Arabella to throw a "tantrum" on Christmas Eve, refusing to leave unless Merrythought accompanies her — tricking Santa into bringing the disillusioned Brownie along on the sleigh ride. Along the way, Santa detours Merrythought to a poor, remote household where seven children, alone while their parents are snowbound, celebrate with nothing but homemade saucer pies instead of presents. Moved by their joy and generosity — one girl gives Merrythought her own pie — he and Santa rush back with a sleighful of toys and blankets for the family. Merrythought returns home having rediscovered his belief in Christmas, eager to make toys again.
