The novel follows the adventures of a young man named John Storm, who is the son of a wealthy industrialist. After his father's death, John inherits a large fortune and decides to use it to pursue his dream of becoming a scientist. He travels to the United States and enrolls in a prestigious university, where he studies physics and electricity. John soon discovers that he has a natural affinity for electricity, and he begins to experiment with it. He eventually develops a revolutionary new device that can generate and store electricity, and he dubs it the "Lightning Corner". With this invention, John is able to create a powerful electrical storm that can be used to power his inventions and even to manipulate the weather. John's invention soon attracts the attention of powerful forces, both good and evil. He must use his wits and his invention to protect himself and his loved ones from the forces of evil that seek to use his invention for their own nefarious purposes. In the end, John must decide whether to use his invention for good or for evil.
