The Inquisitor by Hugh Walpole

The novel follows the story of a young man, John Darrow, who is sent to a remote island in the Mediterranean to investigate the mysterious death of a priest. John soon finds himself embroiled in a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the Inquisitor, as he attempts to uncover the truth behind the priest's death. Along the way, he discovers a dark and sinister plot that threatens to destroy the island and its inhabitants. The novel is a thrilling and suspenseful story of mystery and intrigue, as John races against time to uncover the truth and save the island from destruction.
