Max Brand (1892-1944) was an American author of Western fiction, best known for his stories of the Old West. He wrote under the pen name Frederick Faust, and his works include Destry Rides Again, The Untamed, and The Seventh Man. He was born in Seattle, Washington, and attended the University of Washington, where he studied literature and philosophy. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I, and after the war, he began writing stories for pulp magazines. He wrote more than 500 novels and short stories, and his works have been adapted into films, television shows, and radio programs. He is considered one of the most influential authors of Western fiction.
