Beyond our Control
A malfunction on Satellite Four, operated by Circum-Global Communications, threatens global communication and safety. The satellite, crucial for relaying TV and communication signals worldwide, suddenly loses contact, causing disruptions and endangering transcontinental flights. James Fitzpatrick MacIlheny, the operational vice-president, investigates and discovers that a meteor-like object has altered the satellite's orbit, putting it on a collision course with Earth. As the satellite's orbit decays, MacIlheny plans to use an RJ-37 rocket to correct its path. However, the situation escalates when an alien spacecraft is found embedded in the satellite. The alien, humanoid but with distinct physical differences, communicates non-aggressively and demonstrates advanced technology by neutralizing an H-bomb intended to destroy the satellite if necessary. The alien exchanges the bomb for a weapon, suggesting a peaceful intent. The alien ship departs, leaving Earth with a new piece of technology to study. The encounter hints at the potential for future interactions and trade with the alien civilization, emphasizing the importance of understanding and cooperation over conflict.
