Robert Abernathy

Robert Abernathy (1917-2006) was an American author and journalist. He was born in Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a degree in journalism. He worked as a reporter for the Tulsa World and the Oklahoma City Times before joining the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, he worked as a reporter for the Associated Press in New York City. Abernathy's first novel, Junior, was published in 1956. The novel follows the story of a young man from Oklahoma who moves to New York City to pursue a career in journalism. The novel was well-received and was adapted into a film in 1959. Abernathy went on to write several other novels, including The Last of the Cowboys (1962), The Last of the Red Hot Lovers (1966), and The Last of the Red Hot Mamas (1970). He also wrote several non-fiction books, including The American Cowboy (1962) and The American West (1966). Abernathy was a member of the Authors Guild and the National Press Club. He was also a member of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame.
