Ride the Crepe Ring

In a distant future, a man named Socrates Smith operates a tourist venture on Mimas, a moon of Saturn, where visitors can experience the thrill of dodging meteors in the planet's bright rings. Socrates is under pressure from a government inspector, Farquhart, who is skeptical about the safety of his operation due to past incidents involving artificial satellites. Socrates is determined to prove the safety and excitement of his venture, despite his growing concern for the reckless behavior of his friend, Norma, who is eager to explore the rings herself. Norma, a spirited and adventurous young woman, has recently obtained her pilot's license and is determined to ride the rings, much to Socrates' dismay. He worries about her safety, especially with the dangerous crepe ring, which is dark and uncharted. Socrates tries to keep her occupied and away from the rings, but she is persistent and eventually decides to venture into the crepe ring without informing him. As Socrates takes a group of tourists, including Mrs. Entwhistle, on a ride through the bright rings, he is constantly anxious about Norma's safety. When he learns that she has entered the crepe ring, he is filled with dread. Despite the inherent dangers, he feels a strong urge to rescue her when he discovers her ship is damaged and in distress. Socrates navigates through the chaos of the crepe ring, dodging meteors and debris, to reach Norma. He successfully rescues her and returns to Mimas, where they are met by Farquhart and the Entwhistles. Mrs. Entwhistle praises the experience, which alleviates some of Socrates' concerns about the venture's safety. In the end, Socrates and Norma share a kiss, solidifying their bond amidst the chaos of their adventure. Socrates realizes that his feelings for Norma have deepened, and he contemplates a future with her, hinting at a potential marriage. The story concludes with a sense of triumph and the promise of new beginnings, as Socrates' venture appears to be on solid ground, and his relationship with Norma flourishes.
