Mollie Charane is a young woman living in the small town of Ballymoy, Ireland. She is a hardworking and independent woman who is determined to make her own way in life. She is also a passionate and determined lover, and she is determined to find true love. Mollie's life is thrown into turmoil when her father dies suddenly, leaving her with no money and no prospects. She is forced to take a job as a maid in the home of the wealthy and powerful Lord O'Connor.
