-"We brought nothing into this world and it is certain we can carry nothing out. The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord."
It was the voice of Malcolm McEachern Senior, reading the order for the burial of the dead. Straight-backed, he stood bareheaded in the afternoon sunlight in his suit of black with crape upon the upper arm, and his high white collar and black stock. He was stern with self-control and dignified in his self-respect and neighbourliness in his filling the office of clergyman for his friends, and was a man to honour as he read from the big prayer book given to Mrs Mazere by the Bishop on one of his visits. He was glad of the large, clear print though, not because his eyes were failing--many of the old pioneers loved large print for the same reason that children love it.
