Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) was an English poet who was one of the most popular poets of the Victorian era. He was Poet Laureate of the United Kingdom from 1850 until his death in 1892. Tennyson wrote a wide range of poetry, from narrative and epic poems to lyric and dramatic monologues. His most famous works include "The Charge of the Light Brigade," "The Lady of Shalott," and "Ulysses." He was also a master of the sonnet form, writing many of his most famous works in this form. Tennyson was a major influence on the Pre-Raphaelite movement, and his work was admired by many of the leading figures of the time, including Robert Browning, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and William Wordsworth.
