In a divided France, an usurper duke banishes his brother, the rightful duke, who retreats to the Forest of Arden with loyal followers. The banished duke's daughter, Rosalind, remains at court with her cousin Celia, forming a close bond despite their fathers' enmity. When Rosalind's affection for the brave wrestler Orlando grows, the usurper's anger leads to her banishment. Celia decides to accompany Rosalind, and they disguise themselves as a young man, Ganymede, and a country girl, Aliena, to seek the duke in the forest. Orlando, neglected by his cruel brother Oliver, also arrives in Arden, where he encounters the disguised Rosalind. Unbeknownst to him, Ganymede is Rosalind in disguise. As Orlando courts Ganymede, he unknowingly expresses his love for Rosalind. Meanwhile, Oliver, saved by Orlando from a lioness, reconciles with his brother and falls in love with Aliena. As the story unfolds, Rosalind promises to reveal her true identity and arrange a double wedding. When the day arrives, she reveals herself, and both couples marry. The usurper, confronted by a hermit, repents and restores the dukedom to the rightful duke, culminating in a joyful reunion and celebration in the forest. The themes of love, identity, and reconciliation are central to this pastoral tale.
