A Christmas Tree and a Wedding is a short story by Fyodor Dostoevsky that tells the tale of a young girl named Nastenka who lives with her grandmother in St. Petersburg, Russia. The story begins on Christmas Eve when Nastenka's grandmother takes her to see a beautifully decorated Christmas tree at the home of a wealthy family. While there, Nastenka meets a young man named Sasha and they quickly fall in love. However, their happiness is short-lived as Sasha must leave for military service. The story ends with Nastenka's grandmother passing away and Nastenka marrying another man who she does not love.
